Door County, Wisconsin Travel
Birds are chirping, the air is fresh and crisp, and there's a cool breeze off of the lake. Yes my friends, it's that time of year again. Summer's just around the corner so why not take a trip to Wisconsin's Door County peninsula?
You won't have to worry about finding something to do when on vacation in Door County. There are spectacular golf courses, beautiful campgrounds, breathtaking lake views, and amazing state parks. Not to mention the great food, friendly people, and the endless waves of Lake Michigan and Green Bay to sail or fish on. One can watch the sunrise over Lake Michigan in the morning, then drive 20 minutes to watch it set over the bay in the evening.
One of the great things about Door County is it's a getaway. You can still enjoy its many splendors doing simply nothing. Many people from Chicago take refuge in Wisconsin's historic peninsula to do exactly that...nothing. Families, teacher's, lawyer's, doctor's, writer's, and retirees all come here to get away from the "rustle and bustle" of life in the big city. There's no pressure to "have to do this" or "have to do that" when on vacation. Sure there's plenty of sites to see and things to do, but there's always a time and a place to relax.
Being a former cable guy in Door County, I know first hand what people do to relax when on vacation there. They watch T.V. and surf the web. :-) People came to the peninsula to vacation, but they couldn't go without their T.V. or internet access. Who can these days? :-) I was more than happy and willing to be their cable guy. My experiences installing cable up there were so profound that I often wonder what my life would be like had I not experienced such a wonderful place. I met so many amazing people from out of town. And they have impacted my life greatly. I remember meeting a lawyer from Boston, a writer from Chicago, and a family from Texas. All were great people "living the life" in Door County's beautiful summer season. I even did a job for a professional hockey player from the Ukraine! What a treat that was! May through September were always busiest. Tourism was the cause of course. Tourist's brought and still bring so much wealth to that area. I'm not just speaking in terms of money. The people that come to "The Door" share in the same thing that generations upon generations have shared. That is, a great love of the landscape, community, environment, and each other...no matter where you're from.
People from all over the world come to "The Door" not just to escape on a vacation. They come because they're accepted by everyone there. And they come because it's simply an awesome place to be! I'm sure you'll have a fantastic summer in Wisconsin's Door County. If you can't find anything to do there just take a trip to the beach and bask in the sun. What could be more relaxing than that? Finding a beach should be easy enough. There's over 300 miles of shoreline to discover. And remember to thank your cableguy for the great work the last technician did. Because it just may have been me.
Feel free to leave comments. I enjoy hearing about new places to go or different things to see in "The Door". Until next time, take care and happy travels!
